Benjamin Cheek

Ben spent most of his childhood in Glen Rock, PA -- a bedroom community for the Baltimore, MD Metro area. He was raised in a Christian home. His father served as bi-vocation youth minister and elder at the Glen Rock Church of Christ for years before relocating to New Hampshire to do church planting. His mother is a French-speaking correspondence Bible teacher. He made his commitment to Christ at a young age. After high school Ben attempted several business ventures and worked for several companies. During this time period, he struggled to find real faith while courting success and financial security. God used the failures of his plans and dreams as a wake-up call. He was led to Ohio Valley College to study Bible so that he could return to the Northeast. At OVC Ben met his wife, Susan, and they participated in many ministry opportunities together both before and after they were married. Ben has a heart for teaching others how to find a deep personal faith amid a world of distractions and temptations. He is currently working to develop new initiatives in New Jersey and support existing works throughout the city.

Jared Looney
Jared@bronxfellowship.org | 718.741.2881 (o.) | 347.676.2977 (m.)

Jared was born in Columbus, Ohio, and at a young age his family moved to Harlingen, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley where he spent most of his childhood. His family has a history of ministry. His grandfather has served as a church planter in Mexico for many years, and his father preaches part-time in Raymondville, Texas. From 1991 to 1996 Jared attended Abilene Christian University (ACU) where he initiated an Urban Ministry Interest Group, worked with inner-city youth, and served as director in a drama ministry. During his years at ACU and through practical evangelism training in Memphis and Houston, he caught the vision for church planting in major urban centers. While working in leadership at Camp Shiloh in New York in 1996, he confirmed an earlier suspicion that God was indeed leading him to be involved in church planting in New York City. From 1996 to 1999 Jared served in youth ministry with Impact Ministries in Houston’s Ward districts while also studying at Houston Graduate School of Theology and serving as Vice President of student senate for the seminary. As a mission team was being formed, he relocated to ACU for further team building and was the church planter-in-residence with Mission Church in Abilene. In June 2001 Jared was obedient to the call upon his life and made New York City his new home. He soon met his wife, Hylma, at Manhattan Church of Christ where she currently serves as an administrative assistant. Jared and Hylma and their team planted Bronx Fellowship of Christ in January 2003 in an apartment living room in the Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx. Jared and Hylma have a daughter named Adalia, and they continue to work with Bronx Fellowship as it has expanded into a house church network. Jared has a desire to see churches planted that result in changes lives and that multiply throughout New York City and beyond. While Jared has always loved nature and places of solitude and silence, he has a passionate conviction to see God’s Kingdom on the move in global cities like Metro New York.
